WELCOME TO CHANCE TO DANCE
Our first performance was in 1995 at STAG Theatre, Sevenoaks. Ten dancing schools were invited and one performance was staged. This proved to be successful and has grown each year in popularity. Chance to Dance has always been an opportunity for dancers to perform on a professional sized stage, which is something not all dancing schools or dance clubs are able to offer. Many different styles of dance are performed and there is a varied range of abilities but the one thing that all the dancers have in common is their love of dance. Chance to Dance is non-competitive and it is extremely rewarding to see, at each performance, the encouragement the performers show to each other and the general friendliness backstage. I fully realise the importance of giving opportunities not just to young dancers but to all age groups In 2015 Chance to Dance celebrated its 20th Anniversary. 65 invited dancing schools and dance clubs took part over the 9 performances with well over 1,200 dancers aged 3yrs – adult. The performances were staged in February, March, June, October & November. Theatres included were, Stag Sevenoaks,The Hawth Theatre – Crawley and Exeter Northcott. I have been involved in the dancing world since the early 1970’s running my own dancing schools and am a Life Member of the Royal Academy of Dance. In summer of 2011 I retired from teaching, and now am able to work more specifically on the administration and co-ordination of Chance to Dance. All Chance to Dance crew have an Enhanced DBS and some are also Licensed Chaperones. My vision is to offer dance performances where people’s lives are enriched and dancers’ confidence is gained.
